Trial Masters™ Membership Application
These are the official rules, procedures, membership eligibility requirements and membership application for Trial Masters™.
The terms contained herein constitute the entire agreement between you and Trial Masters and govern every aspect of Trial Masters including, but not limited to, eligibility and membership.
We look forward to having you as part of our community!
Overview: Trial Masters membership is not available to all, or even most, attorneys. Trial Masters was formed to recognize only those attorneys who try cases for their clients day in and day out. 35 civil or criminal trials [20 if under the age of 40 or in practice less than 10 years] is no small undertaking. Showing your potential clients that you have been through the trial gauntlet time and time again will differentiate you from the attorneys who aren’t equipped with the trial experience you have. Additionally, if you are in search for local counsel or referral counsel, you can know you are referring to someone with the experience to try the case.
Refer to your fellow Trial Masters members, and know other attorneys will seek your expertise in the courtroom when trial is inevitable.
Plaintiffs and Defense Bars Welcome: Membership is open to both the plaintiff and defense bars. While each bar certainly has different perspectives on trials, objective trial experience is the basis for membership.
Membership is available regardless of whether a judge or jury was the trier of fact in your trials.
CERTIFY YOUR TRIALS
The first step in becoming a Trial Masters member is completing a certification, under oath, that you meet the membership criteria.
CONFIRM YOUR EXEMPLARY ETHICS RECORD
The second step in becoming a Trial Masters Member is to confirm that you possess an exemplary ethics record by signing the affirmative statement as contained in the application below as to your strict adherence to a high professional standard of conduct, ethics transparency, and performance.
SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION, CERTIFICATIONS, AND LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP FEE
A full application includes required certifications and the applicable lifetime membership fee.
1. ETHICS RECORD
Applicants must be current members of a governing bar association and shall possess an exemplary ethics record. Any disbarment or suspension, from the practice of law, even if reinstated, is a basis for disqualification.
- TRIAL BENCHMARKS
Applicants must certify that they have achieved certain trial benchmarks as principal counsel, of not less than:
(a) 35 or more civil or criminal trials to verdict;
(b) 20 or more civil or criminal trials to verdict if under the age of 40 licensed to practice less than ten years.
“Principal Counsel” is a lawyer who is, or was primarily in charge of and responsible for the preparation, management, and trial of an individual case. Said term shall not be confined to lead counsel (“first chair”), but may extend to a team of lawyers working as co-principal counsel on the case with different responsibilities. Notwithstanding the foregoing, however, the term does not include a lawyer that simply worked on one aspect of the case, or referred a case.
Fees: A one-time lifetime membership fee of $900 is due with your application. A Master Link to your website is also available for a $300 yearly fee. 100% of the fees paid by attorneys who are not accepted will be refunded. Membership fees may be paid by check in the name of the applicant or applicant’s law firm, by credit card or by PayPal. Membership fees are non-refundable after membership has been accepted. Trial Masters reserves the right to deny membership for any reason in its sole discretion.
If your membership is approved, a membership certificate, a press release announcing your membership, and permission to use the Trial Masters seal will be sent to you. Members are then allowed and encouraged to hold themselves out as Life Members of Trial Masters consistent with the rules of professional conduct governing your license(s).
